how long did you put in in the oven?
I did the 10mins thing turning up the heat and it was ready after 35/40 mins...
hmm that should be alright...
last thing i can think of is the temperature of the eggs, maybe to cold... or else... it's a mystery to me why it doesn't come out the right way...
maybe put a picture in this topic.
But they cant be too cold if they are over a pan of hot water...can they..? It looks great...lol...just tastes of eggs and isnt light, its stodgy....heck i hope you know what that means...lol...
someone posted an How-to for basisrecept earlier this evening, maybe it is helpful?
http://www.deleukstetaarten.nl/forum/vi … p?id=94566
No help whatsoever....lol...i cant read it...lol
pictures speak a thousand words and its the same instructions as what was translated for you.
still no luck? that sucks. BUUUUUUUUUUT the webshop is now also in english hahaha so maybe the mix is a good idea.
I am on round 3 of my experimental vanilla cake hahaha.
Yes now they are in English its great....ive looked at the pictures but just thought some instructions would be different...
Its the volume thing that i dont think worked...my cake is nowhere near as high as those pictures...wish it was...anyway its in the bin now...yak..horrid...sweet egg taste
Ok...my final cake (8th) in 24hrs is in the oven, ive followed the how to and it looks just like the pictures and baking away...lol...
But........this morning i had a look at one i made yesterday and it is totally inedible...i could never use this for decoration and give it to someone...the inside is like rubber....so if this one doesnt work thats baking now i am giving up and keep importing my own flour.
do you live in the netherlands? maybe someone of the forum lives nearby and can help you
but i hope this one will be fine!!
I live in Eygelshoven....
This one looks great, but the recipe was for a 24cm and i used a 20cm so i could get the height...my problem now is...what should it taste and feel like...lol...as i have no clue...
it tastes ok cos i put lemon in it, but the texture, to me is odd...lol...like spongy...not light as my usual cakes.
it is sponge... not cake i think.
It's hard for us, as we can't see your cakes
LOL...this is where we differ....we make sponge cakes...so i dont know what the difference is between your sponge and cake.
We have sponge and madeira...madeira is heavier than sponge and denser
Our sponge is light and fluffy.. cake is heavier but can be fluffy.. LOl are you following me?
It's hard for us, as we can't see your cakes <-- that's true
throw in some pictures if it failes again
than it's easier for us to see what's going wrong.

don't forget that it's is dutch cake... we dutch are odd, so our food is also. this type of cake is typically dutch, so it's not so strange it tastes and smells odd to you
and eygelshoven, that's a very long way away from here
I translated the how-to in the link on the first page for you. I hope it helps.

That is soooo funny.....
I ordered some biscuit mix yesterday and its arrived so will try that and see if it tastes like the made one...then i will have some clue...lol
hahaha,
well i'm waiting for the results
i'm very curious now
I am also making a Victoria Sponge with cakemeel to see if thats like mine...
I tried one with biscuitmix and I didn't like the taste...
LOL....ive added the recipe to the recipe area....see if you prefer that one...
Mike has just tried the biscuit one i made this morning and he says its fine...so...maybe ive cracked it...lol...ive just counted all my empty egg boxes...in 2 days ive used 72 eggs...OMG
Edit
Mike has now tasted both cakes...Victoria Sponge which i made with cakemeel and the biscuit....he says the biscuit is "chewy" the nearest word i can find is "taai" but...lol...oh heck...hope you know what i am trying to say..
And the Victoria sponge he says is spot on....like, nice...
Hello Jayne and everyone else
I am also English speaking and mainly use google translate to read this wonderful website.
Everyone is really so helpful...
Jayne, I completely understand what you are going through in terms of baking cakes - I too find it a great struggle - I am still experimenting with several recipes. Where are you from? I am from South Africa and we have wonderful cakeflour there... I checked online for a substitute and found a fairly good option on www.recipezaar.com. (for 2 cups cakeflour , mix and sift together 1/4 cup cornstarch and 1and 3/4 cups patent tarwe bloem) i have tried it and it definitely makes a difference to the cakes.
Good luck
Myra
Hi
I am hooked on the biscuit mix now....its working a treat and never had cakes that rise so high...lol...but will try that mix of yours...ty
