Re: Translation needed pleaseeeeee

hmm that should be alright...
last thing i can think of is the temperature of the eggs, maybe to cold... or else... it's a mystery to me why it doesn't come out the right way...
maybe put a picture in this topic.

Re: Translation needed pleaseeeeee

Ok...my final cake (8th) in 24hrs is in the oven, ive followed the how to and it looks just like the pictures and baking away...lol...
But........this morning i had a look at one i made yesterday and it is totally inedible...i could never use this for decoration and give it to someone...the inside is like rubber....so if this one doesnt work thats baking now i am giving up and keep importing my own flour.

Re: Translation needed pleaseeeeee

I live in Eygelshoven....
This one looks great, but the recipe was for a 24cm and i used a 20cm so i could get the height...my problem now is...what should it taste and feel like...lol...as i have no clue...
it tastes ok cos i put lemon in it, but the texture, to me is odd...lol...like spongy...not light as my usual cakes.

Re: Translation needed pleaseeeeee

it is sponge... not cake i think.
It's hard for us, as we can't see your cakes  ;)

Re: Translation needed pleaseeeeee

LOL...this is where we differ....we make sponge cakes...so i dont know what the difference is between your sponge and cake.
We have sponge and madeira...madeira is heavier than sponge and denser

Re: Translation needed pleaseeeeee

Our sponge is light and fluffy.. cake is heavier but can be fluffy.. LOl are you following me?

It's hard for us, as we can't see your cakes <-- that's true

throw in some pictures if it failes again
than it's easier for us to see what's going wrong.

don't forget that it's is dutch cake... we dutch are odd, so our food is also.  this type of cake is typically dutch, so it's not so strange it tastes and smells odd to you ;)

and eygelshoven, that's a very long way away from here ;)

Re: Translation needed pleaseeeeee

Hello Jayne and everyone else

I am also English speaking and mainly use google translate to read this wonderful website.
Everyone is really so helpful...
Jayne, I completely understand what you are going through in terms of baking cakes - I too find it a great struggle - I am still experimenting with several recipes. Where are you from? I am from South Africa and we have wonderful cakeflour there... I checked online for a substitute and found a fairly good option on www.recipezaar.com. (for 2 cups cakeflour , mix and sift together 1/4 cup cornstarch and 1and 3/4 cups patent tarwe bloem) i have tried it and it definitely makes a difference to the cakes.

Good luck
Myra
