I have 3 of the tappits, which i hate, i can never get the letters out of the darn thing even tho i use cornstarch...how do you all make your letters look so nice

Re: Making letters

From what I've read, they just dip the mold in powdered sugar (= confectionar's sugar) and then use the tappit. Do you understand what I mean?
But I don't know from experience, I haven't used them yet  :nooo

Re: Making letters

What i usualy do is when you have used your tappit and the letters are in it, i put it in the freezer for a little wile (30 sec.) and  then tap it, they come out easy  :thumb:

Re: Making letters

watch out with the freezer tip tappits are super breakable.
Anyways.. I use cornstarch as well fondant and marzipan are sweet enough so all the extra sugar is a nono in my kitchen.  What i do is roll out the fondant/marzipan.  Cut it into strips that are wide enough for the letters.  I let te strips rest for a minute.. and then i start tapping.  Oh yeah and i dont use anything on the tappits they are starch/fat free

Re: Making letters

What I do is when I rolled out the fondant I let it rest for a little while. When the fondant is a little firmer I press the tappits in and they usualy come out just fine!

Re: Making letters

I never use corn starch or crisco. 2 important things is first, make sure that you rol out your fondant or marzipan thin (not paper thin, though). Second, press the tappit firmly. Do not press too hard, otherwise the letters cannot come out easily.

Re: Making letters

the idea is that you put the cling wrap over your fondant and then press the tappit in  :Y

I really dont get why it so "hard" for most people to use tappits :S I just made 5 of every letter in 10 different colors and 2 different styles of tappits
Fondant with a little tylose.. rolled really thin.. let the strips set for minimum 15 mins... and the letters literally fly out of the tappits.  You do kinda need to be a little rough with them.. a tiny tap wont work.. you need to but some elbow into it whahahahaha  :+

Re: Making letters

Use mexican paste or fondant with tylose, and roll out the very thin. Then leave it alone for a few minutes (not too long). Then press in the tappit and leave it for a minute or two. Then tap the tappit on the side of the table, and your letter will come flying out!
